Hāna and Napili Beach

20181125

On the third day, I went with Nathaniel and his parents on a day trip to Hana, located on the eastern, more humid, side of Maui. After a long drive on wet winding roads through scattered showers and over waterfalls, we arrived at the edge of a bamboo forest. Trekking along the muddy trail, we were greeted with a cascade of waterfalls and pools.

On our way to the black sand beach, we stopped to see a lava tube. The lava that once flowed had long disappeared, but not before leaving intricate stalactites and stalagmites on the walls.

The final hike was on a path overlooking a vast valley. We walked another hundred metres beyond a sign saying "DO NOT PASS" and were awarded by a very tall waterfall.

The fourth day was a slow and relaxed one. Nathaniel and I spent some time at the Napili Beach, which is relatively close to the condo where we were staying. Both of these evenings, we were stuffed with some of the best (albeit expensive) seafood dinners I have ever had.
